Unicode characters require multiple bytes per character. How the characters in the text are converted into bytes is called ENCODING. As a plain-text format, the individual characters must be converted into bytes to be stored on disk. The encoding used is the default machine encoding, not the one you select in the save as dialog, which is ignored.ĬSV, whether it's MS-DOS, Mac, or whatever, is a plain text format.
